They're Here!

The best game in town just showed up!  The best way to play the game is to come up with us via one of our Jet Sleds.  We have a new book on-line function showing all available open dates.  Check it out on our website, (http://steelheadoutfitters.com/), or skip to the chase here, (http://steelhead.theflybook.com/).

RIGHT ON TIME!

I know people were nervous about fish returns despite the forecast being up 30% year over year. Our run doesn't get going strong until about the third week in July. We busted a fish at Macks Canyon three years ago on July 3rd but that's an anomaly. We hooked and lost one on the 7th, then again on the 13th, and finally put our first fish on deck Sunday the 14th. Since Sunday the chart has gone vertical.

WATER TEMPERATURE

High water temps will continue to be an issue this year. We need to be careful while fighting fish this time of year. Ten pound maxima ultra green, heavy hooks and 7 weight spey rods. Do not play these fish out, put the wood to them and if you lose them too bad.

EARLY SUMMER TACTICS

What to use and when? July fish will blow anything in their vicinity to smithereens. That said, be aware of sun angles. Just because the sun hits the water doesn't mean you have to bring out the excavation equipment. Look straight up river where you are fishing, if you can see so can they. I fish my own stuff this time of year and everything is on a Gami T10-6H size 4. This gives me two things; one, a heavier hook and two, a stronger hook (remember we horse them this time of year).

See you soon!
