Late June Early July Report!

Been on the Lower 24 miles of the Deschutes most of the month of June and fishing has been solid.  Everyone should know now that there was a big fire on June 1 that burnt the east bank from Wagonblast to Harris Canyon.  Most of the Alder line is still up with the exception of Boxcar to Washout.  The shot above shows the road acting as a firebreak from Sunshine Bar to Harris, the lower river didn't fair as well.  It's not all bad news.  We had some good rain in late June and the grass is growing.

The trout fishing has been pretty good.  No crowds and easy fishing...that is except for the big winds we get this time of year.  Most of the fish have been in the riffles and taking big stuff rolled down on the bottom.  Don't overlook the caddis pupas and emergers as the hatchs are prolific and added with the aquatic moths the trout are used to seeing and eating all that looks the part just make sure it's under an indicator.

I won't say I've been looking for early steelhead but that's a lie.  So far just the occasional trout or even smallie but soon.  Stay tuned, we should have some fresh chrome to show in the next week or two.

Tight lines.
